4 years ago today: Sun Yue, the first player to win both NBA and CBA championships, officially retired

Today in 2021, the Beijing Enterprises Men's Basketball Team officially announced that Sun Yue chose to retire.

Sun Yue was born in Cangzhou City, Hebei Province on November 6, 1985. In the 2007 NBA Draft, Sun Yue was selected by the Lakers with the 40th overall pick in the second round. On August 8, 2008, Sun Yue signed with the Lakers. He won the NBA championship with the Lakers in 2009, but was waived by the Lakers on August 1 of the same year. On September 15, 2009, Sun Yue signed a contract with the Knicks, but the contract was terminated on October 8.

In September 2014, Sun Yue was loaned to the CBA Beijing Men's Basketball Team and helped the team win the 2013-14 CBA championship, thus becoming the first player in history to have both NBA and CBA championship rings.

On September 13, 2017, the Beijing Men’s Basketball Team officially announced that Sun Yue was reimbursed for the season due to a severe ankle injury. On August 30, 2018, the Beijing Men’s Basketball Team officially announced the termination of Sun Yue’s contract. On August 6, 2019, Beijing Enterprises Men’s Basketball Team officially announced the signing of Sun Yue. On October 16, 2021, the Beijing Enterprises Men's Basketball Team officially announced that Sun Yue chose to retire.
