World Sports: The Spanish Football Federation said that the Villarreal vs. Barcelona overseas match will be refereed by Spanish referees
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish Football Federation responded to the topic of refereeing in Villarreal’s overseas match against Barcelona.
La Liga officials and UEFA have previously approved that the La Liga match between Villarreal and Barcelona in December this year will be held in Miami, USA. There are reports that the CONCACAF Football Federation has expressed interest in this game and even hopes to arrange for its own referees to officiate the game.
"World Sports News" consulted the Spanish Football Association about this, and the Football Association said that they did not think this would be a problem and that the game will still be enforced by Spanish referees. The Spanish Football Federation also explained that the Spanish Super Cup held in Saudi Arabia in the past was also enforced by Spanish referees and there were no problems.
Nevertheless, in order to ensure nothing goes wrong, the Spanish Football Association has consulted FIFA for its opinion on the referee issue and is expected to receive a reply next week. But the Spanish Football Federation insists there will be no obstacles to having Spanish referees officiate the La Liga match between Villarreal and Barcelona despite being held abroad.
