Liverpool legend Carragher was awarded the famous "One Man, One City" award by Athletic Bilbao, Spain in recognition of his career.

Carragher accepted the award at the San Mames Stadium and received a standing ovation from fans before Athletic Bilbao's match against Girona on Tuesday.

How do you feel about playing for Liverpool throughout your career and winning this award?

has been able to play for Liverpool throughout my career, which is really special. I started since I was 18, and that (Liverpool's life) is my goal. Each player has a different story and career path.

Many people have wonderful journeys, play in many clubs, and live in different countries. However, it is great to be able to say that you have played in only one place and it fits well with the tradition of Athletic Bilbao. What’s more important than being a ‘one person, one city’ player is sharing these values, so for me it’s an honor and I’m very proud of it.

What do you think the "one person, one city" player career means?

The excitement felt about playing for your home club is incredible, just as the Bilbao players felt. Football is life in Liverpool, and so in Bilbao, which is why the connection between the two is so special. A lot of people talk about those Champions League finals we won, those are very famous games, and I am proud that people know them.

Even so, when I look back on my career, I feel that my greatest achievement is to be a ‘one person, one city’ player, especially at a great club like Liverpool. Few players can say that. In a team sport like football, I don't think there is any trophy or medal that is more valuable than that.

Carragher has been playing for Liverpool since he was promoted from the youth team to the first team in 1996 until he retired from Liverpool in 2013.
