Telzich: Convincing people around us to agree with our common goal is one of my strengths

Telzić stepped down as Dortmund coach after losing to Real Madrid in the 2024 Champions League final. In an interview with The Athletic, he talked about his decision.

Telzich said: "First of all, I went on vacation and I realized there were different roles in life. As a coach, the job was very stressful and demanding, and you had to say no to a lot of things. But I enjoyed days where I could say yes to my children, my wife, my mother, my brother and my friends."

"So I traveled the world with my family and enjoyed the time with them. But when school started, I started working again. I had a lot of questions to answer. How do I improve? What and who do I need to help me achieve this? All the players are great—even if we didn't win the final. It's always hard to talk about ourselves, but one of my strengths is to convince people around me to identify with our shared goals."

" (Last year) The first thing in August was to form me The new team, I met a lot of people in and outside the industry, and participated in a lot of conversations about leadership ability and improvement. It’s not just for the next chapter, but for the further future, because there’s a natural change every time I change clubs.”

" So I met a lot of people who can be reached now with just one phone call, no matter where I am, no matter when I start. Because you never know. Someone might just be a father, someone might want to be a head coach (not an assistant), or someone would want to go to another country. "

"I need a good roster, so I spent a lot of days, a lot of time talking to people and knowing how they feel. Not only their skills, but their personality, how they help me on the court, how they help me off the court. "
