TA: Oviedo fans learn to discriminate against Vinicius & Mbappe, La Liga has reported to the police
The Athletic reported that the La Liga has reported to the Spanish National Police for alleged racist attacks against Vinicius and Mbappe in Real Madrid's match against Real Oviedo earlier this month.
The attacks were allegedly taken during the league at the Oviedo Carlos Tatierere Stadium, and the league reported that insulting slogans imitating monkeys' calls appeared on the scene. The complaint filed by the La Liga with the Spanish National Police includes evidence of broadcasting from Movistar TV show El Dia Despues, as well as video clips widely circulated on social media.
Oviedo Club Chairman Martin Peraes said earlier this week: "In response to the alleged racist behavior that occurred last Sunday, I would like to declare that the Real Oviedo Club condemns any form of racism, machismo and all discrimination."
"We are investigating the incident with security personnel. As long as there is a slightest evidence, we will punish and contain it. Such behavior must not continue to occur here or anywhere."
Vinicius continues to be racist attacks on multiple Spanish stadiums and social platforms. In March 2024, the 25-year-old Brazil international said in tears at a press conference that the phenomenon of racism is getting worse and worse because the perpetrators are not punished and he feels increasingly losing the motivation to play.
In June 2024, three perpetrators who committed racial insults to Vinicius in the May 2023 Valencia La Liga match were sentenced to eight months in prison by Spanish courts, the first conviction in the Spanish football stadium racial insult case.
In September this year, a fan who insulted Vinicius online was fined 60,01 euros by the Spanish High Court and banned from the stadium for two years. Another Mallorca fan was sentenced to one year in prison for insulting Vinicius and Villarreal player Chucueze.
In May this year, five fans who racially abused Vinicius in Real Madrid's match against Valladolid were sentenced to probation and fines.
