Naples hosts the 2032 European Cup planned to be renovated at home, and MPs: capacity increases to 70,000 people
Napoli hopes to renovate their home court to host the 2032 European Cup, and Napoli MP Eduardo Cosenza revealed the relevant details.
The 2032 European Cup will be jointly hosted by Italy and Türkiye, and the two countries have five stadiums to hold the game. Maradona Stadium in Naples also hopes to qualify for the 2032 European Cup, so it is planned to renovate the old stadium. Eduardo Cosenza, a member of the city of Naples who works in infrastructure, transportation and civil defense, talked about the specific details of the stadium renovation.
MP Eduardo Cosenza said: "We have already carried out relevant designs with the support of the municipal government, and there is still a lot of work to be done, but we will do (renovate) anyway. The planned renovation works refer to two other similar stadiums: the Olympic Stadium and the Maracana Stadium."
MP continued: "Although the stadium is similar in size, the Maradona Stadium has only 54,726 seats, and the Olympic Stadium in Rome has 70,634 seats. West Maracana Stadium has 73,609 seats. Why is this? The key is that the third floor stand of our stadium has been closed for 21 years. If the third floor stand can be renovated and opened, the expected increase in the stadium capacity by 10,000 people, which will make our stadium capacity closer to the other two stadiums."
In addition, the MP also revealed that Maradona Stadium plans to increase the coverage area of the stadium stands like Maracana Stadium, and add a connecting layer between the first and second floor stands. "In the end, the capacity of Maradona Stadium will reach 68,000 to 70,000 people, which is closer to the Olympic Stadium and Maracana Stadium. What do FIFA and UEFA think about this?"
In addition to the increase in the stadium capacity, Eduardo Cosenza also revealed that the Maradona Stadium in Naples will also be added to a large photovoltaic system during renovation to enhance the fans' viewing experience, and "build a beautiful museum in the space below the stands."
